Opposition Rally

i went to the spp rally on saturday.  the spp keeps harping on the 27 years they have served the people but nothing concrete about party plans and strategy.  it is clear to the discerning that their strategy is to work out the emotions of the people.  frankly, if pap had been serving at potong pasir, the community would have enjoyed better services and faster, albeit with the absence of chiam see tong's heartfelt sincerity and humility - which is his winning formulae, something which pap was not able to imitate or has failed thus far.  but the residents of pp are after more than just services - they want someone to speak up for them.  but the candidate of choice's ability is suspect.  she is hardly able to express herself - stumbling over her words.  how can she stand up to seasoned ministers.  how merciless the hand that pushes her into the lion's den.

as i watched the spectacle on stage, i begin to ponder if an opposition manages to secure a GRC can they manage the running of the constituent and how do they compare to pap.  Again, will their voice in parliament have a positive and beneficial impact for the country or will they become a stumbling block.  if they failed in both, then the opposition parties has proven themselves quite dispensible but if they can make a significant impact to better the lifes of citizens, then this may hint of the opposition's coming of age - though there is hardly a hint of it in the rally i witnessed.  on the contrary, considering mr. chiam's frailty, i wonder at the future of spp.

Chiam See Tong - he is a gem indeed.  he exudes that kampong charm that is inherent in many of our 'old guard' politicians like presidents Benjamin Sheares and Wee Kim Wee.  we had so many laughs over his sometimes slurry recount of how his O level results were scrutinized by pap when he first entered politics and was ridiculed about his inferior academic perfomance.  Mr. Chiam is no pushover and he quietly and rose to the occasion and birthed that spirit of defiance which rubbed off on the residents of pp.  Odes to mr. chiam.

Love is not like this

When a parent emotionally attacks his own mercilessly - how can one reconcile to the fact that the greatest love are the love of parents?

Truly only God is able to love righteously. For who has loved His enemies so much that a Son was sacrificed to save those same enemies.

It is hurtful to think that a human being becomes something less than material things. Our well being is not more important than a beautiful vase, in fact, our well being should be trampled on because we broke a vase.
I have no regrets the vase is broken. It make me see so clearly that man is not to be trusted, even those who professes that they love you and who are deemed closest to you.

Only God can be trusted.

First church service of 2011

Today i felt the Lord's presence in church so strongly, i am amazed at HIS grace.

The LORD is full of grace, a brother came up to me to hand me a prayer request slip as if sensing my need. My Father God knows my shyness to ask for a prayer request slip, He sent a discerning brother to hand me one without my asking. Do not belittle the simple things one can do for God. Just by the handling out of little prayer slip, this brother has caused the LORD's glory to be revealed. Isn't He loving, lovely....

The sermon today is God's principle in provision:
#1 - We must depend on Him
Not on man or on things. Abraham when told to sacrifice his son, he realized that he cannot turn to the left nor right to save his son except to God, to provide the SACRIFICE. I do not know what thoughts transpired in Abraham's mind, but he obeyed God to "sacrifice" his son and prophesied that GOD would provide the SACRIFICE.

#2 - Put God first
Seek first HIS kingdom... Did not God already encouraged us that HE feeds birds without them storing in barns and cloths the fields in such splendour as not even Solomon's can compare? He will provide in a way that brings Shalom - whatever the pagans run after He can give better, because what He gives if its according to His will He will cause to prosper in spirit soul body. So put Him first and not rob yourself.

#3 - Take care of others' needs and God would take care of my needs
Do not think first of yourself, think first of others, this is HIS order of things. Its a sacrificial attitude, God first, others first, then.... In most Asian societies, we do have this value system but a contracted version. We are to consider the children first, parents first, younger siblings first, etc. Now Godly principle dictates to extend this to all around us, others first.

Thank God for equiping us with a great sermon to start the new year.
God is good!!

Wisdom in the Morning

Of late, on some mornings as i awoke - i sensed wisdom coming to me.

Today it was- "do not overwork your eyes - give it rest and it will serve you well and longer. "

It is very simple wisdom - it is insight and not head knowledge or rational, but a depositing into my being. It just welled up in me. Like a voice coming forth. It "spoke" to me, knowing that i had worked my eyes hard of late. It did not occur to me that my eyes needed rest. SOMEONE is taking good care of me. The Eternal One is taking care of me......
Now i shall rest. I look forward to the morning - to that transcending sense of life coming upon me. Bless the Almighty for He is good.

It Needs Faith to Cycle

I love road cycling. I love the thrill of cycling alongside vehicles. I also know the danger of road cycling - i have enough close shaves to realize how flimsy a cyclist's life can become.

Hence my title - it needs faith to cycle - on crowded Singapore roads that is. I always pray for journey mercy before i hit the road. As i cycle along, i remind myself that not i but He protects me. I can be the most careful cyclist - but well people get killed crossing the road at the traffic junctions - we're just not in control.

A seasoned cyclist without hearing problems will know if a big vehicle is coming up very quickly from behind her - she can feel the road tremble and when it speeds by, her bike goes into a jiggle. In moments like this, i steady my hands, cycle real straight and pray. There are buses that come so close i'm really amazed that nothing happens.

It really needs faith to cycle.

Being

I must remind myself time and again that i am me, i have a personality. However, do i really know who i am- or am i just a mix of what i want to be plus what i pretend to be plus what i really am?

In our Asian society, we have many roles to play - many times in order to play those roles, there is a need to suppress ourselves - to not be ourselves because it is sometimes rude and sometimes offensive to others. On another front, mass media has a way of sometimes impressing on me a trait of someone i'm not but i wish i was. Like how i wish i was the Drew Barrymore lyricist character in the movie Way Back Into Love. Her lips were just dripping with words that tugs at your heart. I like those moments when i sometimes say something in my head that just zapped me - i felt inspired by the mere stringing of some simple words. But those are really rare moments - a fluke.

Its strange that i have to remind myself that i'm not always me. Being is sometimes a funny thing.
